Herman Cain Wants A Cabinet Position?

Secretary of what?

I just read that Herman Cain wants to be Secretary of Defense. Cain seems to think he’s the best person for this job. I’m not one to get too involved in politics, but not so sure about his aspirations here. I know he’s a Morehouse alum, but the qualifications just aren’t there.

He said the same in an interview with Barbara Walters last month (hypothetically) (also check out his rendition of “He Looked Beyond My Faults” at the end of the interview):

The Interview That Went…

A failed interview made me who I am today. So grateful it didn't go well.

It was the interview that went. I wouldn’t say it went well. I wouldn’t say it went poorly. It just went. Four years ago I sat in a well-known judge’s chambers and spoke with him about my career. It was an informational interview for a position, but took an unexpected turn when he learned one thing about me: the fact that I was a devoted Christian who had aspirations to one day become a pastor. I remember it like it was yesterday. We spent about ten minutes talking about my accolades, schools I attended, and my prior experience. Everything seemed to be going well. Then he asked about my career aspirations. I was honest. Practicing law was secondary to ministry. Then he said it:

So I did it. “I live my life according to the Word of God. I am a follower of Jesus and am unashamedly dedicated to Him. So if that makes me a religious nut…yes sir, I am.” Needless to say, the interview didn’t last much longer after that. We wrapped things up and he escorted me out of his office. I wouldn’t hear from him again.

Tackling the Bar Exam

I'll be sitting in a room like this one more time.

Every February and July test takers sit in various venues for a 1.5 to 3 day period to take the Bar Exam. As someone who has taken the Bar, I’ll have to admit that it was one of the most physically and mentally demanding time periods of my life. You are essentially asked to cram loads of legal information (including various nuances in certain state laws) and commit that information to memory over a three month period. Many of my associates can attest to the fact that you are cut off from family, friends, social activities, and life generally for a period of three months studying for whatever state bar you are taking. Each state has its own level of difficulty. California Bar passage rates last year were at 54%. On the other end of the spectrum 91% of Montana test takers passed the bar in 2008.

I say all of that to tell you that I’m crazy. Why am I crazy?
