Brandi Spyies
Carla Brandilyn Spyies, better known as Brandi to friends and family is a native of Warner Robins, GA. Â
Brandi is an alum of Valdosta State University where she majored in Early Childhood Education and minored in Music. After graduating from VSU, Brandi moved to Jacksonville, FL, where she was employed as a Kindergarten Teacher in the Duval County Public School System. While teaching, she decided to pursue her childhood dream of becoming more like Anne Sullivan (Helen Keller’s teacher). Brandi was accepted to the University of North Florida in 2001, where she intended to pursue a Master’s in Deaf Education; however, an opportunity emerged for her to matriculate into a four-year doctoral program in Clinical Audiology. In September 2002, Brandi decided to leave her home in Jacksonville, FL and pursue her Doctoral Studies at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL. During her last year of graduate studies, she was stricken with advanced cancer, with very minimal time available for treatment. She was immediately mandated to start chemotherapy in an attempt to save her life. During this trying time, Brandi relied on her faith in God to help propel her into complete remission and succeed in her graduate studies. In August 2006, after a 6 heavy rounds of chemotherapy, Brandi walked across the stage with Honors and was hooded as a Doctor of Clinical Audiology. Though she and her family were proud of this accomplishment, the greatest joy was standing in front of many as a testament to the healing power of God. Now, 5 years later, a cancer that surrounded her throat, lungs, heart, abdomen, spleen and liver is now NO MORE…thanks to the faithfulness of God. Brandi’s philosophy in life is, “we are not entitled to second chances, it’s a privilege to be granted such an opportunity. Make the most of your second chances. Live more, love more, serve more, pray more, so you can bless more.”
