Silence
“…the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness” (Luke 3:2)
460 years. Â That’s how long it had been. Between Malachi and Matthew, God spoke very little. At least publicly. Finally, the word of God came to John in the wilderness. What had occurred during that 460 years of silence? Why was there nothing spoken from heaven during that time? There were still prophets around. There were still priests around. All they heard was silence. And therein lies this simple truth.
Your wilderness is a good place to hear from God.
Luke found it necessary to include this little detail. The word of the Lord came to John in the wilderness. Not when things were going well. Not when he was in a synagogue. God spoke to him when nobody else was around. In fact, people probably thought he was crazy because they didn’t hear the same thing John heard.
Be selective about the people with whom you share the intimate details of the word God gives you.
Like John, they might think you’re crazy. But public silence is fertile ground for God to speak to those whose heart is willing to listen. How are you preparing to hear from him?

Good word, baby.
Great words
Amen.
