love-or-hate

Hate

“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens…a time to love and a time to hate” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8 )

Ask people to describe the message Jesus preached in one word and there is one that is likely to come up more often than not.  Love.  For many followers of Jesus, hate has no place in the Kingdom of God.  Yet, if we are to be true to the whole biblical witness what are we to do with the words of the preacher in Ecclesiastes: There is a time to love, and a time to hate.

There are times (and things) to hate.

Civil Rights participants were fueled by hatred of injustice.  Women’s Rights advocates were fueled by a hatred of inequality.  Jesus himself was fueled by a hatred of commercialization in God’s temple.  So yes.  I hate.  I hate the disparate treatment of minorities in the criminal justice system.  I hate the abject poverty children live in every day on our streets.  I hate.  And I hate passionately.  And in some circumstances, it’s totally okay.  I guess it just depends on the object of your disdain.

I am so feeling your statement about, “I hate the disparate treatment of minorities in the criminal justice system.”.. My son (13teen) seen another boy’s bike get stolen and my son went and got the bike back from the boy who stole it and was on his way home to put the bike up so he could give it back to the boy on monday @ school & the police saw my son w/ the bike an arrested him took him to Juvy. Charged him w/ having stolen property and conspiracy. When the boy who’s bike it was clearly stated my son was not the one who stole it! the officers should have just called me to come pick up my son. Instead they treated him like a criminal and arreste We go to court 2moro @ 1pm. So please keep us in your prayers the the truth will Prevail and my son’s name will B cleared completely.
